چکیده

The usual action integral of classical electrodynamics is derived starting from Lanczos’s electrodynamics — a pure field theory in which charged particles are identified with singularities of the homogeneous Maxwell’s equations interpreted as a generalization of the Cauchy-Riemann regularity conditions from complex to biquaternion functions of four complex variables. It is shown that contrary to the usual theory based on the inhomogeneous Maxwell’s equations, in which charged particles are identified with the sources, there is no divergence in the self-interaction so that the mass is finite, and that the only approximations made in the derivation are the usual conditions required for the internal consistency of classical electrodynamics. Moreover, it is found that the radius of the boundary surface enclosing a singularity interpreted as an electron is on the same order as that of the hypothetical “bag” confining the quarks in a hadron, so that Lanczos’s electrodynamics is engaging the reconsideration of many fundamental concepts related to the nature of elementary particles.

LANCZOS’S FUNCTIONAL THEORY OF ELECTRODYNAMICS A commentary on Lanczos’s PhD dissertation

Lanczos’s idea of classical electrodynamics as a biquaternionic field theory in which point singularities are interpreted as electrons is reevaluated. Using covariant quaternionic integration techniques developed by Paul Weiss in 1941, we show that the Lagrangian suggested by Lanczos in his thesis of 1919 is equivalent to the standard Lagrangian of classical electrodynamics. On the mathematical...

The Energy Conservation Law in Classical Electrodynamics

A logical error in the usual derivation of the energy conservation law is analyzed, and a way to avoid the error is presented. In earlier papers [1], [2] we identified a logical error adopted by repetition in textbooks on classical electrodynamics when the laws of conservation of energy and momentum are derived for a system consisting of electromagnetic fields and charged particles. In this pap...

Derivation of Green’s Function for the Interior Region of a Closed Cylinder

The importance of constructing the appropriate Green function to solve a wide range of problems inelectromagnetics and partial differential equations is well-recognized by those dealing with classical electrodynamics and related fields. Although the subject of obtaining the Green function for certain geometries has been extensively studied and addressed in numerous sources, in this paper a syst...

Helicity in Classical Electrodynamics and its Topological Quantization

Any divergenceless vector field defined in a 3-dimensional manifold defines an integral quantity called the helicity that measures the way in which any pair of integral lines curl to one another. In the case of Classical Electrodynamics in vacuum, the natural helicity invariant, called the electromagnetic helicity, has an important particle meaning: the difference between the numbers of rightan...

‎Solving Some Initial-Boundary Value Problems Including Non-classical ‎C‎ases of Heat Equation By Spectral and Countour Integral ‎Methods‎

In this paper, we consider some initial-boundary value problems which contain one-dimensional heat equation in non-classical case. For this problem, we can not use the classical methods such as Fourier, Laplace transformation and Fourier-Birkhoff methods. Because the eigenvalues of their spectral problems are not strictly and they are repeated or we have no eigenvalue. The presentation of the s...
